What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.

When I was four

my Christian preschool

taught us bible verses

we’d memorize

for gold stars

They taught us

I ever learned

On a picnic

with my family

at the park with

a dragon fountain

I wandered off

up a tree

got stuck

Unable to move

up or down

my parents not around

just me

in a tree

I started to cry

mumbled to myself

the memory verse

and was unstuck

That was my conversion

when I learned

God was the one

I could trust

when I was afraid.
